Lampard wants to bring highly-rated Chelsea starlet to Derby County

first_imgAccording to the Daily Mirror, at least two Premier League clubs and a handful of Championship sides are keen on the 20-year-old.One of those is Derby, with Lampard willing to give the England Under-21 international regular football in the second tier, and it is claimed his close relationship with former club Chelsea may give him the edge in a deal. MINISTER MUST FIGHT ‘TOOTH AND NAIL’ TO REJECT FISH QUOTAS – O DOMHNAILL

first_imgFianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill says potentially disastrous proposals from the European Commission on fish quotas for the North West must be vigorously opposed by the Minister for the Marine.Senator O’DomhnaillYesterday at the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Ó Domhnaill proposed that the committee reject the proposals from the EU Commission.“Yesterday, I asked that the Committee to reject the communication from the European Commission and formally write to the Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture and the Marine and the EU Commissioner to inform them of our position. “Next week the EU Council of Fisheries Ministers meets in Brussels and Minster Simon Coveney must fight tooth and nail to amend these proposals,” he said. The Donegal Senator  said that taken cumulatively the North West demersal fishing fleet would face a 19%, or €900,000, reduction in fishing opportunities which will directly impact the ports of Greencastle and Killybegs.“If the Commission proposals were to be implemented in their current form then the proposed overall quota reductions are in the order of €70 million, which Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) estimates could impact between 400-500 jobs in coastal areas around the country.“The Commission proposals cannot be entertained as to do so would be devastating to the North West Fishing industry. “Minister Coveney must argue against the EU proposals and protect the interest of the Irish fishing fleet which is now clearly under threat,” concluded Senator Ó Domhnaill. MINISTER MUST FIGHT ‘TOOTH AND NAIL’ TO REJECT FISH QUOTAS – O DOMHNAILL was last modified: December 12th, 2013 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Brian Ó Domhnailldonegalfisg quotaslast_img read more

La Liga: Barcelona eyes return to winning ways against Villarreal

first_img Tags: barcelonaErnesto ValverdeSpanish La LigaVillarreal Barcelona have already lost two games this season. (PHOTO/Courtesy)Real Valladolid vs GranadaEstadio Municipal Jose Zorrilla, ValladolidTuesday, 24-09-2019 @8pmGranada, despite coming into this league just this summer, after being promoted from the Segunda, is showing no fear at all. They are placed third in the table, and impressively, is on a three-game winning run. Even more satisfying is the stat that just the last match-day, they defeated two-time defending champions Barcelona. And that too with a clean sheet.Furthermore, they have scored the most number of goals, at 11, after Barca, and Villarreal, who both have 12 on the board.Suffice it to say the team has built quite a bit of momentum, and they have been accustomed to keeping certain standards. They are no longer the timid club that stood astounded at the prospect of locking horns against the top sides in the upper-division.Valladolid, in spite of their home advantage, will surely find it hard to keep a check on these incoming visitors. And especially with their four-tie winless run. Moreover, their offense is failing to make any kind of impact at the moment, with making returns of just a total of four goals from their five fixtures so far.The Nasrids won four of the last five match-ups. Since 2010, only once has Valladolid managed to keep a clean sheet. Granada, meanwhile, kept their nets clean thrice in the former five clashes. The last time these two met, which was a month back, Real lost 2-1.Real Betis vs LevanteEstadio Benito Villamarin, SevilleTuesday, 24-09-2019 @9pmBetis will welcome Levante to Stadio Benito Villamarin on Tuesday for their game of the 6th round in La Liga. The hosts of this tie are currently on the 12th spot in the standings with 5 points, while their next opponents are up at 8th, having earned 7 points so far.No draw has been registered in the previous seven H2H clashes between the two sides. Levante won the last two meetings, and thus ended an eight game run without a triumph against Betis. Three of the last five meetings featured over 2,5 goals, while none witnessed goals at both ends, as they all saw only the winning side finding the target. Betis were on a run of keeping four consecutive clean sheets, when meeting Levante at home, but leaked in three in the most recent game at Benito Villamarin Stadium.Betis won only one of their opening five matches in La Liga, and are currently on a run of two consecutive draws. Their trip to Osasuna on Saturday ended in a boring goalless draw. Only that of the team’s last five encounters did not see both involved sides to score, while three of the games produced over 2,5 goals.None of Levante’s five league games was won by the away sides, with the record of only the hosts triumphing after the final whistle, put to an end in the team’s Saturday meeting with Eibar, which ended in a goalless draw. Two of those five matches featured over 2,5 goals, and only the same also witnessed goals at both ends.Barcelona vs VillarrealEstadio Camp Nou, Barcelona Tuesday, 24-09-2019 @10pmThis Tuesday evening, the Camp Nou will host what should be a thrilling encounter between Barcelona and Villareal. Villareal currently sit in 7th place in La Liga. They are in the very unusual position of travelling to Camp Nou while being a place above 8th placed Barcelona. This gives Tuesday’s clash an interesting dynamic.Another stat that makes this a particularly exciting encounter is that with 12 goals each, these are the two highest scoring teams in La Liga this season. True to the character and style of both teams, we expect to see plenty of goals scored this Tuesday. It isn’t just both teams’ attacking ability that fuel the belief that this will be a high scoring game. Barcelona’s recent defensive efforts have been far from convincing. Barca have conceded at least 2 goals in their last 4 La Liga games. The Catalan giants have consequently got the joint worst defensive record in La Liga.As well as that, both teams scored in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two sides. We expect this trend to continue this Tuesday. We believe that both teams scoring is a very likely occurrence for this fixture. The Camp Nou is no stranger to goal fests. Barcelona have scored at least 3 goals in 15 of their last 17 home matches. This is also a trait associated with Villareal on their travels. There has been over 2.5 goals scored in Villareal’s last 4 away games. This fixture seems all but certain to deliver a lot of goals. Barca have kept no clean sheets in La Liga, while villareal have managed to score in all of their games. As well as both teams scoring, we feel that over 2.5 goals is a very safe bet for this fixture. The pressure is mounting on Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde. Barca are experiencing a period of very poor form for their high standards. They performed poorly in Europe last week, very luckily escaping from Dortmund with a point. They followed this up with a shocking 2-0 loss away to newly promoted Granada on Saturday. Many reports coming out of Spain are suggesting that Valverde has lost a portion of his dressing room. The manager himself came out after Saturday’s loss stating that he is aware of the pressure on him. The coach said that he “knows (he’s) in a position where results matter.”It is clear that this Tuesday’s clash will be extremely important for Valverde. In a results driven business, his future with Barcelona may hinge on Tuesday’s game.Valverde will be pulling out all the stops to get his team back on the right track and put a bad run behind them. This may include the return of Lionel Messi to the starting line-up. Messi hasn’t started for Barca yet this season. His return would be a major boost to his team’s chances. For all their bad form of late, Barca have managed to keep Camp Nou as a fortress. The last time they failed to win at home in the league was in February, when they drew 2-2 with Valencia.Comments last_img read more

The Rise of Natural Light

first_imgContinued improvements in digital camera technology are making low light and natural light more appealing for productions of all sizes.Cover Photo via Kimberly French.Filming with natural light isn’t a new practice, but digital filmmakers have faced more challenges in this regard than their celluloid counterparts. When digital cinema cameras first entered the scene, they simply didn’t have the same dynamic range as film. As a result, cinematographers couldn’t push the camera as far as they wanted to. Esteemed DP Emmanuel Lubezki in his interview with DPreview.com has the following to say:Unfortunately, the transition happened too early and the cameras weren’t ready. The digital cameras that came out in the beginning (around 15 years ago) were not even close to the high dynamic range of film. I worked with a few directors, including Michael Mann, to do tests with digital video imaging. For certain things, we liked and used it, but it was primitive and it wasn’t ready to take over and become the main technology for capturing images.Image via 20th-Century Fox.Since then (fifteen years ago), digital cameras have come a long way. I’m sure the purists will argue that digital is still not as a great as celluloid, but when the RED WEAPON can provide 16.5 stops of dynamic range, it sure expands how far you can push your images. With film, you can overexpose and bring the highlights back into the picture in the lab — to a degree. However, digital is somewhat unforgiving with highlights. Once they’re clipped, the data is gone. Therefore, most digital filmmakers expose for the highlights and enhance the shadows in post. This can be a problem because noise can creep into the image.Today, though, you can easily push many cameras to ISO 1600 and get completely noise-free shadows. Why Light Exterior Day Scenes?Film production crews light exterior scenes for several reasons: keeping the light consistent throughout the day, filling in shadows, and lighting compositions evenly. This allows filmmakers to expose for the bright highlights of the sky — the lights will illuminate the actors in the foreground.Image via AMC.However, since new camera systems have such wide dynamic ranges, coupled with powerful RAW processing, this is no longer necessary in many circumstances. We have an in-depth article on dynamic range here, but, in short, dynamic range refers to the range in which a camera can capture the brightest and darkest areas of an image without losing details. If you can capture the highlights in the sky and the shadows of the forest floor, you can film without lights.Tips For Filming with Natural LightLet’s say you’re going completely natural like Yves Belanger in Wild, a film that relied 95 percent on natural light — without any bounce boards or silks. There are still a few things to consider before ditching the lighting gear and going completely natural.Time of DayWhen the sun is highest in the sky, that’s when you’ll get the brightest light — but also the harshest. The midday sun creates defined shadows and plenty of opportunities to accidentally clip your footage — not to mention that your actors will be squinting if they are facing the sun. Make sure you film with the sun behind the actors.According to many, the best time of day to film (or photograph) is during blue hour or golden hour. These are the hours just after sunrise and just before sunset when the sun is low, which creates a beautiful, golden light. Terrence Malick makes great use of this in his films. In my video tutorial below, you can learn a lot more about this time of day and how to get the best results.Locations Locations go hand-in-hand with the time of the day. If you’re filming in of a forest, you’ll want as much available light as possible; therefore, it makes sense to shoot when the sun is at its highest. Likewise, if you’re going to film at golden hour, but the location is in a city center where a series of buildings obscure the evening sky, you may never see that golden sun. You need to choose your locations and shooting times carefully.“The less you use artificial light, the more you want to avoid it, because the scenes feel weak or weird or fake.” —Emmanuel LubezkiDo you have any tips for filming with only natural light? Sometimes You Have to Stand Alone

first_img Get the Free eBook! Want to master cold calling? Download my free eBook! Many would have you believe that cold calling is dead, but the successful have no fear of the phone; they use it to outproduce their competitors. Download Now There will be times that you have to stand up for what is right, and doing so means you will have to stand alone. Stand anyway.Sometimes standing up for yourself means that you will have to stand alone, too. No matter much how much it feels like you need someone to stand with you, no matter how afraid you may be, stand alone, come what may. It’s never easy to stand alone, but there will times when you have to stand alone to protect those who cannot stand for themselves. No matter what people think of you, no matter what they say about you behind your back, and even if you become the target of their fears (and bullying, anger, resentment, and all other forms of violence are all a form of fear at their core), stand alone anyway. You will never regret standing up for what is right, for what you believe, or for those who can’t stand for themselves. Real character is a rare commodity, and is worth whatever price you pay.But know this: those who stand alone often turn around to find that there are many standing behind them.last_img read more

The thought of drinking red wine in summer makes me feel hot and bothered and I am instead drawn to a bouquet of fragrant and crisp whites. In the midst of this mental tussle between red and white, enters the rose, one of my summer favourites. The rose has found a niche for itself in the Indian market, especially when white is not enough and red is just too much. Aromatic, fresh, fruity and floral are some of the first hints I get when I swirl a mouthful of rose to combat the mad afternoon heat.Only a select few imported rose wines are available in Indian importers’ portfolios. Some Indian wineries like Sula with its Brut Blush Zinfandel or Grovers’ Shiraz Rose are beginning to introduce the rose into the Indian market and the time to get reacquainted with the best rose is just right, as we make our way through a typical Indian summer. My pick this summer would have to be the perfectly poised Sula Rose Brut. This salmon pink sparkling wine is an amalgamation of two very different grapes-the Chenin Blanc (90%) from the Loire Valley which is used to make slightly sweet and dry white wines and the Zinfandel (10%) from California which has a predominant note of blackberry and pepper. A combination of these gives this sparkling pink a fullbodied feel and the bouquet a freshness that’s just right for summer. The end result is an afternoon, sipping a crisp sparkly with hints of strawberries and melon. This rose while bordering on being dry and firm, has elements that make it fun, fruity and fresh.Rose wines need a little pampering of their own and don’t do too well in the heat. Best served chilled (5 degree Celsius) on a stifling afternoon or hot and heavy evening. As rose wines have a more robust structure than that of white wines it is easy to pair them with Indian dishes like biryani, fiery fish curry and most other dishes that are part of North West Frontier cuisine. This summer give your brunch an edge by creating a heady punch with rose as its defining ingredient. It’s guaranteed to knock the summer heat out of your guests and keep them coming back for more. Here’s a simple recipe that packs some punch.Empty a bottle of Sula Blush Zinfandel into a jug or bowl. Add about 15 strawberries (if other berries are available add them too) cut into chunks, 120 ml sugar syrup, 120 ml lime juice and two cans of ginger ale (to make it a little stronger you can add 120 ml of a berry flavoured vodka ). Chill the punch for an hour or two and serve with light tapas. Say cheers to rose and goodbye to summer.-Aftab Sidhulast_img read more

Wanted to play the brand of cricket Mumbai Indians are known for: Rohit Sharma

first_imgMumbai Indians brought an end to Chennai Super Kings’ unbeaten run as they beat the defending champions by 37 runs on Thursday to register their second win of IPL 2019.Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was a happy man after his side staged a superb fightback while to post 170 for 5, batting first, and then the bowlers did an outstanding job to restrict the dangerous Super Kings lineup to 133 for 8 at the Wankhede stadium. It was the 100th IPL win for Mumbai who had lost their previous game against Kings XI Punjab last month. They are now sixth in the points table but still have a long way to go to climb up the ladder. Chennai Super Kings dropped to second in the table after their first loss this season. Kings XI Punjab have taken the lead.”I think every game we play in the IPL is important. Having lost two games at the start, suddenly every match becomes important. We don’t want to keep that task of having to win many games at the end, it’s really difficult. We just wanted to play the brand of cricket Mumbai Indians are known for. We just kept ourselves in the game all the way through and those are good signs.”I thought 170 was a fighting total here because you never know. We knew that there was something in the pitch and if we could knock wickets early, things could work. That’s exactly what happened. We didn’t start off well with the bat but we finished really well,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.advertisementHardik Pandya was the star of Mumbai on Thursday night as he smashed 425 not out off 8 balls to fire the home side to a par score after they were reduced to 125 for 5 by the 18th over. The all-rounder also starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 20 runs from his four overs and finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the match along with Lasith Malinga (3 for 34).”We didn’t start off well with the bat but we finished really well. With the ball, we were extremely clinical. To defend a 170 score at Wankhede, you need to be really good with the ball and we were with the fielding also being extremely efficient. That’s why I can’t pinpoint a single match-changing event, there were so many of them,” Rohit said. The Mumbai Indians skipper also praised debutant Jason Behrendorff, who took the wickets of Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina in quick succession to dent CSK early in their run chase.”Jason has been great for Australia with the new ball and we all know what he is capable of. Did the same for us and his spell early on set the tone. Rahul also seemed promising, bowled just the two overs but there was a reason for that as MS and Kedar play spin well. So, I went on with the pacers,” Rohit concluded.Mumbai Indians will next face the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6 after Chennai Super Kings host Kings XI Punjab on the same day. Also Read | IPL 2019: Kieron Pollard in awe of Pandya brothers after MI crush CSKAlso Read | MI vs CSK Highlights, IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 37 runsAlso Read | IPL 2019: Clash of the Titans as Mumbai Indians host Chennai Super Kingslast_img read more

We kind of adopted her Toronto royal fans embrace Meghan Markle

first_imgTORONTO – A ticket for a minor traffic infraction and a sudden preponderance of black SUVs were Tiffany Babiak’s early clues that something was different about her normally quiet downtown neighbourhood. Then she learned the reason why: Prince Harry’s then-rumoured girlfriend Meghan Markle lived just a few blocks over and the area was crawling with security. As word of the royal relationship would eventually spread, so too, did media scrutiny of the tree-lined enclave of stately family homes next to the University of Toronto campus. The British media were especially hungry for any tidbit related to Prince Harry’s love life, but the royal couple had little to worry about, says Babiak.By and large, she says neighbours closed ranks and kept mum about anything they’d seen of the couple, ensuring they’d have as much privacy as possible under the circumstances.“Everyone got very protective of her because it was just like, it’s our neighbourhood, and we didn’t want these kind of paparazzi driving around and harassing anybody,” says Babiak.“It was funny, my (friend) one day went up to one of the SUVs which was idling … and she went up to the window and she was like, ‘Listen, I don’t know who you are but this is a residential neighbourhood so can you turn off your engines?’ And they were Prince Harry’s drivers.”Markle, who is set to marry Prince Harry on May 19, may be a California actress, but she’s an honourary Canadian in the eyes of many fans who followed her seven-season run on the Toronto-shot TV series “Suits.”“We kind of adopted her,” Babiak quips. “As far as I’m concerned she’s more Canadian than American.”And from all that appeared, Markle certainly embraced Toronto as her home away from home: volunteering at a local soup kitchen, vacationing with cast members over Canadian Thanksgiving, hobnobbing in downtown hotspots, and taking to social media to tout favourite restaurants and hangouts, biographer Andrew Morton writes in “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.”By 2016, Markle was the promotional face of no less than two storied Canadian institutions — the 92-year-old retailer Reitmans, for which she designed a capsule collection of wardrobe staples, and the Christian charity World Vision Canada, to which she lent her burgeoning celebrity power to promote aid work in the developing world.Longtime royal watcher Patricia Treble says Markle’s ties to Toronto portrayed a sparkling version of the city that was young, stylish, and glamorous. And she provided an invaluable boost to little-known Canadian designers by wearing their clothes abroad, including coats by Mackage and Line the Label, and outfits by Erdem, Greta Constantine and Aritzia’s Babaton brand.“She really embraced it. She’s worn a lot of fashions from here, you’ve got Birks, you’ve got all the outerwear — and she’s worn that in Britain which has had a huge impact on the Canadian fashion market. A huge impact,” says Treble, a freelance writer and researcher who also helms the blog writeroyalty.com.But her ascendance as a Toronto tastemaker coincided with turmoil in her personal life, writes Morton, who notes Markle married producer Trevor Engelson in September 2011 just before shooting the second season of “Suits.”Her nine-month commitments in Canada meant long stretches of time apart, and it was a Vitamix blender that symbolized their growing divide.“She insisted that her favourite kitchen appliance from their West Hollywood home come with her to Toronto… even though it would have been just as easy to buy a new one,” he writes. “It sat on the kitchen counter in the Toronto house, a material reminder that her home was no longer in Los Angeles.”The marriage ended in 2013, and was followed by a two-year romance with local celebrity chef Cory Vitiello, further entrenching Markle in a circle of Toronto movers-and-shakers that included marketing and bridal consultant Jessica Mulroney.Hilda Andrade says she was a frequent follower of Markle’s social media posts, and was delighted to see her involvement with Reitmans.“I think she brought some freshness to that and some good colours. There was also clothing for those a little bit more chunky like myself and that actually would fit, it was nice,” says Andrade, who works at the University of Toronto and admits to being on the lookout for Markle.“She brought some good vibes to the area and (back) then a lot of people would say, ‘Meghan this,’ ‘Meghan that.’”Buzz only intensified when Prince Harry confirmed the royal romance in November 2016.By the time Toronto hosted Prince Harry’s beloved event for wounded military personnel, the Invictus Games, in September 2017, “things just went thermonuclear,” Treble says.“Because he was here for an extended period of time and the entire British royal press was here, and so everyone was waiting and trying to see: Would they go out in public? Would they be seen together? And when they were, that just became news that rocketed around the world,” she says.“I think what caught everyone off guard was just how quickly the romance has blossomed, how quickly they announced their engagement.”Even 10-year-old Zelda Armstrong got caught up in royal fever, recalling the time last spring she scrambled to a park in the Annex neighbourhood when she thought she caught a glimpse of the prince. The grade schooler says she and her friend took a moment to practise their curtsy (her friend also changed into heels) before dashing back to the park, only to find him gone.“He has red hair just like me,” says Armstrong. “I just find it’s interesting, what royals wear, and also I saw a video on YouTube about the royals and their kids.”Babiak says the city was certainly energized and is still reeling from the buzz of Markle’s time here.“Even those people who didn’t want to admit it were pretty excited about it,” she insists of the royal romance’s lasting impact.“It kind of makes life a little bit more interesting. You never know who you might run into when you take a walk.”Note to readers: CORRECTS spelling of Zelda Armstrong in para 26last_img read more
