first_imgIT’s the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association (JRTA) raceday at Caymanas Park today, with the 11-race programme featuring three trophy races. These include the annual renewal of the JRTA Trophy over 1200 metres, to be contested by a maximum field of 16 native- bred three-year-olds, non-winners of two.Although the race has a competitive look about it, the winner will, more than likely come from a quartet comprising PROUD PRESIDENT, with title-chasing apprentice Bebeto Harvey aboard; LUCKY NINE, under three-time champion Dane Nelson, UNION FOUR with Paul Francis and MISS MYRTLE, the mount of former champion Wesley Henry.PROUD PRESIDENT ran a blinder in defeat over 1500 metres last Saturday, finishing fourth in a blanket finish to OLD BRAETON. That form could stand up well in present company, especially with the shorter distance more to his liking.FAIRLY CONSISTENTStill, preference is for MISS MYRTLE, who has been fairly consistent and looks nicely off at the weights with 52.5kg.Coming from the in-form stables of Patrick Fong, MISS MYRTLE has good speed and should use this to best advantage and win from PROUD PRESIDENT.The opening Dye Job Sprint over 1200 metres for two-year-olds should resolve itself into a straight fight between MR. UNIVERSE and MONEY MAGNET, both of whom have won twice. The vote goes to the Wayne DaCosta-trained MR.UNIVERSE, who truly impressed with a fast-time runaway win over 1300 metres on November 12.Other firm fancies on the card are the consistent WILL IN CHARGE in the Seymour ‘Foggy’ Mullings Memorial Cup over a mile, COMMANDING AVIATOR in the seventh, and the 2-y-o first-time runner ATOMIC PRINCE in the eighth.last_img
