Nine Hancock County teams headed to baseball, softball playoffs

first_imgELLSWORTH — Nine Hancock County teams have qualified for this year’s Northern Maine baseball and softball playoffs, and three of those teams will have No. 1 seeds in their respective fields.Prior to the Ellsworth baseball team’s 6-4 win Friday over Mount Desert Island, the Eagles defeated Washington Academy 11-0 on Thursday to clinch the top spot in Class B North. The 15-1 Eagles will be at home against the winner of tomorrow’s game between No. 8 Lawrence (7-9) and No. 9 Presque Isle (7-9) on Thursday, June 6.Elsewhere in Class B North, the 10th-ranked Ellsworth softball (10-6) team will play on the road against No. 7 Gardiner (11-5) at 4 p.m. tomorrow, June 4. Both Mount Desert Island teams will play home games at 4:30 tomorrow with the No. 5 baseball team (8-8) hosting No. 12 John Bapst (7-9) and the No. 8 softball team (9-7) hosting ninth-ranked Erskine Academy (9-7).In Class C North, the George Stevens Academy baseball and Bucksport softball teams clinched No. 1 seeds. GSA baseball (15-1) will host eighth-ranked Lee Academy (6-10) or ninth-ranked Penquis Valley (5-9) in the quarterfinals, and Bucksport (13-3) will be at home against No. 8 Mattanawcook Academy (7-9) or No. 9 Orono (7-9). The seventh-seeded Sumner softball team (6-1) will be playing at that time tomorrow when it hosts No. 10 Houlton (3-11). The Tigers are in the playoffs for the first time in four years.Deer Isle-Stonington enters the Class D North softball playoffs with a record of 12-4.
