For most programs and their fans, National Signing Day is Christmas come early. Each team adds a few dozen players who are coming off of illustrious high school careers. Most are either lauded by the various recruiting services or deemed “underrated” by the fans. While these major recruiting sites—Scout, Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN—can never evaluate every kid perfectly, studies have shown that the teams that consistently pull it blue chip talent are the ones that compete for national championships. SB Nation’s Bud Elliott wrote a great feature about this last February: As recruiting rankings continue to grow more accurate, they’re now to a point at which they can help tell us which teams are ready to compete for titles. Every BCS champion since recruiting rankings could be accurately tracked (2005, or four classes after Scout joined Rivals in rating players) has met a benchmark: it’s recruited more blue-chips (four- and five-star players) than lesser-rated players over its four previous signing classes. So, which programs have improved their recruiting the most from 2014 to 2015? Which have fallen off? Based on 247 Sports’ useful composite rankings, which use the ratings applied to each player from the four recruiting services, here are the 23 power conference teams whose recruiting rankings have improved the most.T-19. Colorado2014 Composite: 742015 Composite: 69Difference: +5As a program, Colorado has been wandering through the desert for years now. 2014 didn’t see a big difference in the Buffaloes’ win-loss record at 2-10, but Mike MacIntyre’s team was more competitive on the field. The Buffs took UCLA to double-overtime, eventually falling 40-37, and did the same in a total shootout against Cal, where they eventually fell 59-56. They also put up pretty respectable performances against Arizona State, Oregon State, Washington, and Utah. While the gains in recruiting weren’t substantial, Colorado did keep talented four star lineman Tim Lynott home. He was one of four of the top six recruits in the state to choose to play for CU. The Buffs also went into California to pull out talented outside linebacker Nu’umotu Falo. Colorado’s class isn’t huge at 19 players, which hurts its total ranking a bit, but it is a step in the right direction for a team that hopes to finally exit the rebuild stage over the next few years.T-19. Purdue2014 Composite: 692015 Composite: 64Difference: +5Purdue’s recruiting class ranks last in the Big Ten, but the Boilermakers are encroaching on Minnesota and Iowa, and don’t have winning seasons to fall back on like those schools. Purdue only has four wins in the first two seasons under Darrell Hazell, with only one coming in Big Ten play. Former coach Danny Hope had a bit more success late in his tenure, making back to back bowls in 2011 and 2012, but two of his classes ranked 70th or worse. Hazell is digging out of a big hole, and hasn’t had a ton of immediate success, but the deck was stacked against him, which makes it less surprising if he gets a bit of extra leeway at Purdue.T-19. Washington State2014 Composite: 542015 Composite: 49Difference: +5With Mike Leach on the sideline and Connor Halliday under center, Washington State had one of the most prolific offenses in the country in 2014. The Cougars were No. 1 in the nation in passing offense at 477.7 yards per game, and 117th in points against at 38.6 per game. While some don’t believe that Leach cares much about defense, this 2015 recruiting class says something different. Wazzu’s lone four-star player Thomas Toki plays defensive tackle, and is one of 11 Cougar commits on that side of the ball. According to 247 Sports, seven of the Cougs’ nine top recruits play on defense. While bringing a top 50 class to Pullman and improving on last year’s class is a good thing, if Washington State can start to build that defense, it will not be a fun group to play.T-19. Nebraska2014 Composite: 362015: Composite: 31Difference: +5Coaching changes almost always have an immediate impact on recruiting. Occasionally, it takes a year for excitement about a new coach to result in improvement, but new Nebraska coach Mike Riley actually improved on Bo Pelini’s final class right away. The program has a pair of four-star early enrollees from Colorado in cornerbacks Eric Lee and Avery Anderson, and picked up a top ten guard in four star Jalin Barnett. Nebraska is not a state rich with high school football talent, which makes recruiting for the Huskers a bit tricky, but Riley did a very nice job dipping into Texas, Oklahoma, and even out to California and the Southeast for quality players.T-19. Oregon2014 Composite: 212015 Composite: 16Difference: +5There is a pocket of the Oregon fanbase that is not yet sold on head coach Mark Helfrich, at least when compared to his predecessor Chip Kelly, but he has done a great job of maintaining Oregon’s high level of recruiting, despite the fact that the state produces very few FBS caliber players. Oregon plucked players from eight different states, and it leaves no stones unturned. The Ducks are bringing in players from California, Georgia, Hawaii, and Minnesota—their recruiting profile is about as varied as any team can get. Headlining this impressive class are five-star defensive end Canton Kaumatule from Honolulu, who should be a force against both the run and the pass at 6-foot-7, 290-pounds, and dual-threat quarterback Travis Waller from Anaheim.T-17. Arkansas2014 Composite: 292015 Composite: 23Difference: +6Since shutting out LSU 17-0 on November 15, Arkansas has been on a roll. The Razorbacks followed that up with an even more impressive 30-0 win over Ole Miss, narrowly lost to SEC East champion Missouri, and then destroyed Texas in the Texas Bowl, 31-7. In mid-October, it didn’t look like Arkansas would make a bowl. Now, the team has a ton of momentum, and took it into the end of this recruiting cycle. The Hogs had five blue chip players enroll early, including pro style quarterback Ty Storey from in state. Arkansas has also added a couple of four star defensive linemen, and two top tight ends, which should help round out Bret Bielema’s run-heavy offense a bit. Amazingly, Arkansas’ class only ranks 11th in the SEC, but it should help them stay competitive in the SEC West, college football’s toughest division. An open letter signed by wildlife experts has been sent to DEFRA and the Home Office urging Ministers to renew funding for the National Wildlife Crime Unit.Dr Jane Goodall, Joanna Lumley, Kate Humble, Ben Fogle, Steve Backshall, Simon King, Mark Carwardine, Simon Reeve, Dr Charlotte Uhlenbroek and Deborah Meaden have co-signed a letter with World Animal Protection requesting answers as to whether the NWCU will fall victim to government cuts. The National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) is a world-leading police unit dedicated to supporting wildlife crime investigations and is fundamental to providing and analysing national wildlife crime intelligence across the UK. Without them, a huge number of wildlife crime cases would not be successfully investigated or prosecuted. But, with imminent funding cuts approaching, the future of the unit is under threat and in only four months their work could face complete collapse.Ministers refuse to rule out the Unit being scrapped due to budget cuts. The NWCU’s future looks in grave danger as their funding comes to an end in March 2016.Despite World Animal Protection, the Head of the NWCU and MPs asking Defra for clarification on the funding of this vital unit, Defra will not provide reassurance that the future of the NWCU is secure.Funding to tackle the illegal wildlife trade has already been allotted at £10 million over 2015/16 and 2017/18. So it would be sensible to assume the department is aware of where this money is to be used. With the Government seemingly prioritising their fight against wildlife crime, the lack of financial commitment to the UK’s own national unit is causing deep confusion and concern to all those involved in protecting wildlife from crime, particularly when it only requires a fraction of their budget – £278,000.In 2014, the NWCU were granted two years’ funding; but previous to that they had to fight to stay open every single year. This endless cycle of uncertainty has been a huge drain on their resources.Head of the National Wildlife Crime Unit, Martin Sims, said: “We are the only police unit in the UK that’s solely dedicated to dealing with wildlife crime.“Our focus is on assisting police forces in responding to a wide range of wildlife crimes including hare coursing, poaching and the trade in protected species as covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.“As well as our successes in helping to bring to justice the people who commit these crimes, we’ve also identified through our intelligence and analytical work that the UK is not just a transit route in the trade of endangered species but a trading hub. It is fair to say that if funding to the National Wildlife Crime Unit is cut, then the unit itself may no longer viably operate or continue to support police forces in the way that it currently does.”Head of UK Campaigns at World Animal Protection, Alyx Elliott, said: “We are grateful to the support shown by these eminent wildlife experts in fighting for the security of this vital police unit. Wildlife crime is abundant across the UK and internationally with animals being harmed, persecuted and taken from the wild. Animals are hunted, smuggled, butchered for their body parts or kept alive in order to be sold on. The NWCU is absolutely critical in the fight against wildlife criminals. Without them, wild animals will be at a much greater risk of suffering cruelty.”

Bhatapara: Amid claims of “misusing” the armed forces for electoral gain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said the strength of “one vote” had enabled the surgical strike and air strike in Pakistan.Addressing a poll rally here in Chhattisgarh, Modi said the India of today carries out surgical and air strikes across the border and shoots down satellite in space due to the strength of “one vote” of the people. The Election Commission last week sought a report from poll officials in Maharashtra after Modi’s remarks at a rally in Latur, where he asked first-time voters to dedicate their vote to those who carried out the Balakot air strike. The report was sought in the context of an EC advisory issued last month asking parties to desist from indulging in political propaganda involving actions of the armed forces. Modi also stepped up attack on Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, saying it was the mindset of the “sultanate” of the ‘Naamdar’ to abuse the deprived and treat them as slaves.

NEW DELHI: Dairy major Amul said on Monday that it will increase milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi NCR, Maharashtra and other states from Tuesday due to an increase in production cost. Milk prices were last revised two years back in March 2017, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk and milk products under the Amul brand, said in a statement. The new price will come into effect from May 21 onwards and on all six brands being sold in major markets of Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kolkata, Uttaranchal, Maharashtra and other states, the GCMMF said in a statement. Considering the increase in the cost of milk production, all member milk unions of Gujarat have increased the milk purchase price by a minimum of Rs 30-50 per kg fat (5-8 per cent) over the last few months, it said. According to GCMMF officials, the national and international dairy markets have witnessed adverse conditions for the last two years. Due to this, there has been a steep decline in the prices of commodities such as skimmed milk powder and butter oil which had resulted into decline in producer prices of milk across India leading to adverse impact on milk producers. “The milk cooperatives of Gujarat, however, continued to pay remunerative prices of milk to its producers and the average final price of milk paid to our producers has increased from Rs 710 per kg fat in 2017-18 to Rs 730 per kg fat in 2018-19,” the release states. The milk prices are being hiked due to increase in the price of major cattle feed ingredients such as de-oiled rice bran, rice polish fine, molasses, maize which has resulted in an increase in the cattle feed price by over 15 per cent.
CAIRO- Egypt’s foreign minister acknowledged in comments published Wednesday that relations with Washington were in a “delicate” phase after it suspended some military aid in response to a July 3 coup.Nabil Fahmy said the US administration had overestimated the amount of leverage that its aid dollars bought it over the policies of the interim government installed by the army after it overthrew elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.“We are right now in a delicate phase reflecting turmoil in the relationship and whoever says otherwise is not speaking honestly,” Fahmy said in an interview with state-owned daily Al-Ahram. Fahmy said Washington was wrong to assume that its October 10 decision to suspend deliveries of major military hardware and cash assistance of $260 million would influence the interim government’s policies. He blamed the hiccough in relations on the dependence on US aid of the regime of Hosni Mubarak which was ousted in 2011 after three decades in power.“We chose the easy option and did not diversify our options… this led the US to wrongly believe that Egypt would always follow its policies and aims,” Fahmy said.
New Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has paid tribute to his predecessor Jupp Heynckes following their 5-0 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFL-Supercup finalRobert Lewandowski proved to be back to his very best by scoring a hat-trick on Sunday’s encounter at the Commerzbank Arena after his late struggles last season and at the World Cup for Poland.Kingsley Coman and Thiago Alcantara were the other scorers to ensure that Kovac’s tenure got off to a winning start against his former club Eintracht Frankfurt. But, while lauding hat-trick hero Lewandowski, the new Bayern boss took time to pay tribute to Heynckes.“We don’t have to talk that much about Robert. He is a very good and world class striker, who proved this today,” Kovac said, via SportsKeeda.“It’s not easy to score three goals in 70 minutes. And I have to mention that the reason why we played today is because of Eintracht Frankfurt and Jupp Heynckes, who won the championship last year.“Thanks to him to leave me this strong team. To work with this squad, that’s fun. I hope that we continue to be so successful.”Match Preview: RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 RB Leipzig will have the chance to prove their title-winning capabilities when they host Bayern Munich today at 18:30 (CET).On the match itself, Kovac added: “We managed to let the ball circulate well. We actually did not allow any big scoring chances. I imagined that as well.“The first 20 minutes were not easy, because Frankfurt were compact. Through a strong action on the right side by [Joshua] Kimmich and Lewandowski, the game gets easier for us. Then of course it plays in our cards. Maybe you could have expected one or two goals less.“I am satisfied and I hope that this title will strengthen us in the future. Of course I wish my Eintracht all the best and that the season is as successful as the last one.”?
